Welcome from the Program Chair

Dr. ZimmermanI would personally like to welcome you to our Academy's 2015 Annual Meeting at the historic Broadmoor Resort.  This beautiful and picturesque resort is situated at the foothills of the Cheyenne Mountain Range near Colorado Springs with a magnificent view of Pike's Peak.  The Broadmoor Resort is one of the finest of its type.  It offers 622 guest rooms; 111 luxury suites; 44 cottage accommodations; a relaxation spa; an onsite lake; infinity pool; golf course; and tennis courts to be enjoyed by all participants and family.

Our meeting this year will be held in the elaborate, but comfortable, conference rooms and exhibition hall.  This year's meeting is entitled "Surgical Optimization Using Past, Present and Future Techniques," and will offer up-to-date didactic lectures, case presentations, and discussions which will all be applicable and relative to your practice.  Our conference will offer members the opportunity to earn up to 25.5 AOA category 1A credits while participating in our concurrent lectures from all subspecialty disciplines of our profession.

We are pleased to offer two additional educational offerings this year.  The Milestones Workshop topics include milestone development, ACGME Review Committee Structure and strategies for successful implementation of milestones.  The Milestone Workshop is designed for residency program directors and faculty-seeking ACGME accreditation.  We will also be offering the "CO*RE REMS" course, an in-depth and informative lecture for physicians who prescribe and treat patients with ER/LA opioid analgesics.

New this year, the AOAO will be presenting digital posters.  We will have wide-screen monitors in the exhibit hall to view the posters, as well as provide an online poster discussion board that will allow viewers to post questions and comments to the authors.

We are extremely delighted to have as our keynote speaker this year, New York Times' Best Selling Author, mountaineer and alpinist, Alison Levine.  From Wall Street to West Point to the summit of Mount Everest, Alison Levine has lectured to Fortune 500 companies and professional athletic teams.  She captained the first American all-women's Everest expedition and has written her best seller, “On the Edge: The Art of High-Impact Leadership,” as well as being contributing author to the book, “Leadership in Dangerous Situations:  A Handbook for the Armed Forces, Emergency Service, and First Responders.”

All in all, this year's AOAO 2015 Annual Meeting will surely offer plenty of both academic and social opportunities for all involved.  I sincerely thank you for joining me and the AOAO Board of Directors at this most scenic and elegant resort.  I would finally ask that all of our attending members please visit and thank our exhibitors, sponsors, and vendors. Without them our meeting would not be possible.

Welcome back to the The Broadmoor.  Enjoy the conference.
